Early this year we started reworking how ILUZTAR presents itself online: a new layout, new typography, a calmer color palette, and a site that is faster and easier to use. This post explains the thinking behind the rebrand and what it means for anyone who works with us.
Where we started
ILUZTAR began in 2015 as small freelance illustration jobs, a way to turn a love of drawing into a bit of income. In 2023 the studio took on its official name and identity. Over those years the website grew the way many small studio sites do: one feature at a time, each added when it was needed, each with its own look.
It worked, but it started to show. Different pages used different fonts and button styles. Some sections were crowded; others were hard to find. The illustrations, which should be the whole point of the site, were competing with the interface around them.
What we wanted
The goal was simple to state and harder to achieve: a site that feels as considered as the work it shows. We wrote down a few principles before touching any design:
- Let the artwork be the loudest thing on every page
- One consistent system for type, spacing, and color
- Fast on phones, since that is where most visitors arrive
- Easy for a first-time client to understand how commissioning works
- Available in both English and Indonesian
What changed
Visually, the site now uses a clean grid, generous white space, and a single type system, with ILUZTAR blue as the one strong accent color. Pages are calmer, and the portfolio images have more room.
Behind the scenes, the changes were just as important. Pages load faster, images are served in lighter formats, and navigation is simpler. The gallery is ordered from the newest work, and the homepage shows the latest pieces first, so returning visitors always see something new.
- A cleaner, grid-based layout across every page
- One consistent type system instead of several mismatched ones
- Faster loading and lighter images
- Simpler navigation and a clearer commission page
- English and Indonesian versions of the site
A rebrand should make the work easier to see, not louder than the work.
Our design principle
The name stays the same
The name ILUZTAR itself did not change, because it still says exactly what we want it to say. It blends three words from three languages: ILUZ from Ilustrasi in Indonesian, LUZ meaning light in Spanish, and TAR from the English word star. Together it reads as an illustration that shines like a star. The logo was refined, not replaced.
What did not change
None of this changes what we actually do. We still create illustration, graphic branding, and photo editing. The commission process is the same, including the free consultation, the written quote, and sketch approval before production. The payment options are the same. If you have worked with us before, everything will feel familiar, just easier to find.
What comes next
A rebrand is never really finished. We will keep adding work to the portfolio, writing more in-depth posts here on the blog, and refining the site based on what clients tell us. If something is confusing or hard to find, we genuinely want to hear about it through the contact page.
